And this is why I married Tyson

I always get ideas (or steal them from others) of pictures I want Tyson to take of Scarlett. Well, I had one today and and of course Tyson is gone and he took the good camera with him. So here I was with my great idea and no tools or skills to make it come to fruition. I decided to just do it myself and the results were not good. :( We have about a million leaves outside our apartment right now and it looks beautiful. I bought Scarlett a tulle pettiskirt and I thought it would be fun to take pictures of Scarlett in the leaves. My pictures did not turn out even a millionth of what I wanted them to. I'm hoping that they don't clean up the leaves before Tyson gets back and we can have a round 2. Here are some I sort of like. Scarlett is still cute so that's why I'm sharing. :)

FYI

Becky Higgins announced a new kit the other day. The Project Life kit is similar to the Project 365 kit, but should be more flexible. So if you like the idea of P365 but not the commitment, this may be the kit for you. I absolutely LOVE my P365 kit and love that it forced me to document this year. I will for sure be buying a Project Life kit. Check her blog out over the next couple of weeks because I'm pretty sure they'll be releasing it (or at least doing pre-orders) in time for the holidays.

Tiny Bird, Big World

2 Year Appointment

Scarlett had her 2 year well child check today. She was 19.2 pounds
and is 33 1/2 inches tall. She's still on the small side but her
doctor said he's happy with her progress. She's still growing and
that's what he wants to see. He wants to see her for a weight check
in 6 months.

She's sad in this picture because she was afraid she was going to get
a shot. Luckily she didn't get any shots!

Prematurity Awareness Month

November is Prematurity Awareness Month.  I find it very fitting that Scarlett's birthday falls on the start of Prematurity Awareness Month.

If you want to learn more about the March of Dimes and how you can help fund research to prevent premature births, you can go to their website, www.marchofdimes.com.  Or you can read some staggering statistics about premature births and how they're on the rise.  Or you can read some amazing stories of some tough little babies.  Or you can just look at my sweet baby.

I can never go to their website without crying.  I know without a doubt that MY baby is alive and thriving because of research done by the March of Dimes and similar organizations.  I am beyond grateful for their research and all that they do.  We will again be participating in the March for Babies in 2010 and raising money for a cause that is very near and dear to our hearts.

While we were on our cruise I wore my March of Dimes/March for Babies shirt to breakfast one day.  I had someone stop and ask me about my shirt.  It was so neat to be able to share our experience of Scarlett and tell a little about the March of Dimes and what they do.  I hope that we can continue to be advocates for them in our own small way.

Pumpkin Carving

We decided to carve our pumpkin tonight since we just didn't have the time before.

Scarlett was very interested in the guts of the pumpkin. She wasn't afraid to touch it all.

She thought the way it felt was so funny! She called it "icky!".

She was so excited about the pumpkin that she eventually just climbed right onto the table to help Tyson.

And Scarlett isn't wearing any pants because she's 2 and figured out how to take them off. Let me just say that has been awesome. :P

She loved finding the seeds in the mess and making her own little pile of seeds. You can kind of see it if you click on this picture, but our pumpkin guts were sort of ramen noodle looking. I've never seen the inside of a pumpkin look like that. We think that means ours is about to rot.

She also thought it was funny to steal the pumpkin guts.

And she even found some tupperware to out in and play.

The final product.

We figure we'll let it hang out outside for a few days.

I can't believe it's already November! Thanksgiving is around the corner and so is the end of the year. 2009 has flown by!

2nd Birthday Party

Our little Mickey and Minnie Mouse family! You can't see it, but Scarlett's headband says "I'm 2!".

Scarlett and her cupcake! I found this Minnie Mouse plate at Disney World and thought it would be perfect.

Scarlett seemed a little surprised when we started singing to her but she didn't freak out. When we told her to blow out the candle she did it on the first try! I was so proud!

She wasn't very interested in her cupcake. She only ate some of the frosting.

Our little family. :)

We opened presents after cupcakes. Scarlett loved the clothes she got and was excited to tell me "Dress!" and "Shirt!"

Scarlett thought it was pretty fun to rip the paper.

She loved the tea set and baby set (stroller, high chair, etc.) we got her.

With daylight savings Scarlett was pretty tired after the party. We got home and she crashed on the couch.

I didn't get nearly as many pictures as I wanted and I'm sad I missed getting some of everyone who came but I'm glad for the ones we did get. Thank you to everyone who came! It was great seeing everyone! I know it was sort of crazy because it was a Sunday and it's the day after Halloween, but we really appreciate those that came. Scarlett had a great time and we're so glad to have the support of family and friends! I still can't believe my little girl is 2!

Birthday Party Decorations

When I decided a couple months ago that Scarlett would be Minnie Mouse for Halloween I decided to do her birthday party a Minnie Mouse theme too. I thought it would be super easy to find stuff but it wasn't as easy as I thought! Most of the Minnie stuff I found was hot pink or purple and I'm more a "classic" Minnie with the red/black/white stuff. So I ended doing a lot of these decorations myself.

This is the invitation that I designed and Tyson made in Photoshop.

I couldn't find a "Happy Birthday!" banner I liked so I found some directions online to make one so I made this one out of scrapbook paper. It was MUCH easier than I thought it would be and I LOVED the way it turned out. :)

I had enough materials to make another banner so I made a "Welcome!" sign for the front door.

I used red polka-dot paper and some red/black Mickey Mouse paper.

Tyson and I decided we had WAY too much cake last year so we decided to just do cupcakes this year.

We did white cake cupcakes with chocolate frosting and red sprinkles.

We also did red velvet cakes with cream cheese frosting and mini chocolate chips.

I printed a picture of Scarlett in her Minnie outfit to welcome everyone.

I also made collages of Scarlett's first 2 years. I took a picture from each of her doctor visits.

You can really see how different she looks and how much she's grown in this one.

We also had balloons but they didn't make it to the party because by this morning they had pretty much deflated. I only bought them last night! I was pretty bummed because Scarlett likes balloons so much, but it didn't really matter in the end.

All in all I had a fun time planning and making the decorations for Scarlett's Minnie Mouse party.

Growing

A look at Scarlett's growth the past year by her pictures at the doctor.

November 2009 - 1 year check-up

February 2009 - 15 month check-up

June 2009 - 18 month check-up

September 2009 - weight check

October 2009 - almost 2 years (and not at the doctor but I wanted a visual for her birthday)

Happy Birthday Scarlett!

My baby girl is now 2 years old! How time flies! Can't wait for your party tonight! Happy birthday, baby bird! We love you!

Halloween 2009

We started the day off by going down to my in-laws to their ward "party". They had a pumpkin carving contest on their community's basketball court. There were also games for the kids, doughnuts, cider and Halloween music. This was the judging of the carved pumpkins. My father-in-law won one of the prizes for his pumpkin made to look like Jack from Nightmare Before Christmas.

Scarlett wasn't interested in carving a pumpkin because there were SO Many kids to play with! She also loved playing with Dad. (We saved our pumpkin and we're going to do it some time this week. No sense in wasting it!)

This was the pumpkin that won 1st place. It is a pumpkin having a c-section. It was HILARIOUS! And disturbing. This picture doesn't do it justice either, but it was amazing.

These are pictures we took of Scarlett in her costume a few weeks ago for her birthday invitation. They are the only good ones we got of her. She wasn't very cooperative today because she was SO excited by everything going on!

After the ward party we headed up to Park City. They close down Main Street and all the shops give out candy. It was SO much fun! I think we're going to have to go again next year. Mommy the witch and her little Minnie Mouse!

Tyson and Scarlett weren't really in the mood to have their picture taken at the end of the day.

Hope everyone had a happy and safe Halloween!

Tyson "working"

I can hardly say that Tyson spent last week working. He definitely was "working". Tyson was asked to film a corporate piece on Necker Island in the Caribbean. CLICK HERE to learn more about Necker Island. Short story, it is the private island of Sir Richard Branson (of Virgin Air, Virgin Air, etc. fame). The island is an EXTREMELY high end resort. Famous guests include Princess Diana, Oprah, Mariah Carey and more. While Tyson was there he met Richard Branson and Natalie Imbruglia.

Tyson said these geckos are ALL over the island. He said they were working one day and he felt something fall on him and this gecko was on his shoulder. The gecko startled him so he flicked it away and it landed on the camera.

This is to kind of show how big he was. This is Brad, Tyson's brother. The gecko is pretty big. When Tyson got home and I was unpacking his suitcase to do laundry he said "Um, FYI, a gecko may jump out of there." I stopped unpacking and let him do it. I'm ok with lizards, but I don't think I'd like a surprise one jumping out at me.

Tyson said these turtles were everywhere too.

The "rooms" they had were more like houses and they each had a 360 degree view of the island. Tyson said their beds had nets around them that they slept in. He said the weather was PERFECT!

He said the sunsets were unbelievable.

And my tan boy came back even more tan. This boy loves his beaches!

Tyson has some other pictures that I want to post but my computer is majorly on the fritz (virus, probably about to crash) and I couldn't download all of his pictures. If I can get the rest I'll post them later.

Silly Daddy

This morning Tyson asked me to put out an outfit for Scarlett. I put out jeans, a t-shirt and a sweater to go over the t-shirt, and then another long sleeve t-shirt as a second option. When I got home today, Scarlett was wearing all 3! I guess I wasn't very clear when I was spoke to Tyson. It sure was funny though!

Time to re-train and re-think!

While Tyson and I were on our vacation we had a lot of time to talk.  One thing that we kept coming back to was how to get me home with Scarlett.  Since she was born and we moved to Utah that has been our goal.  It worked for a short period of time but then I was back at work.  This is a recurring topic in our home.  When/how will I ever get to stay home?!

Tyson has been blessed/lucky recently to have some amazing jobs.  Because of these we've been looking at our finances and we've decided that now is the time that I can stay home again.  It's going to take some change on our part, but they are changes that are necessary for our family.  Scarlett needs me at home with her.  I don't need to be at work.

The change part is going to be what's hard for me.  Not because I don't adjust well to change but because we've lived a fairly free life these past few years and it will be hard to see that go.  We've never lived a lavish lifestyle (though some may think otherwise), but we've been comfortable and able to do a lot of things others don't get to.  We've been really blessed to be able to live the way that we do, but now is the time for change.

I'm not going to go crazy and sell all my earthly possessions or institute a no shopping ban, but we are going to try and be more prudent with our money.  It's a necessary step for me to stay home with Scarlett.  One that we finally realize has been necessary all along.  (What can I say?  We have thick skulls!)  I'm looking forward to more free time to do the things I've neglected around the house, spending more quality time with Scarlett and sleeping in a bit.

R.I.P.

While we were in the Bahamas my poor little iPod died. It won't hold a
charge anymore and only works occassionally even if it's plugged in.
It is a sad day. Tys bought it for me the during our first few months
of marriage and had it engraved for me. I'm going to miss my little
buddy. It's been a good 4 years.
